School safety window film for districts & campuses

Built by parents. Trusted by districts.

School safety window film is a retrofit that keeps entry glass in the frame after it breaks, delaying forced entry so lockdown and response can work. Epic — the nation’s largest 3M dealer, founded by two parents who found a failed install in their own children’s school — puts it on every entry, done right, at co-op pricing, with the paperwork your board needs.

What film does on a campus

It doesn’t stop a bullet. It denies the opening.

Most campus intrusions start at glass — an entry door, a sidelite, a ground-floor window. Standard glass fails on the first strike and the building is open. Attached security film keeps the broken glass in the frame, so the intruder is still outside, still visible, still making noise while lockdown happens and responders arrive.

  • Holds shattered glass in the frame under repeated impact
  • Reduces flying-glass injury in classrooms and corridors
  • Optically clear — natural light and sightlines unchanged
  • Installs on existing glass in days; no construction
  • Pairs with sun control to cut energy cost on the same glass
Straight talk

Three things we’ll put in writing

1. Security film is not bulletproof or bullet-resistant.

2. Film without a structural attachment is not a forced-entry system.

3. The install method matters more than the brand on the box — ask any vendor how they treat the gasket.

FAQ

School safety window film questions

What does Texas require for school glass?
Texas Education Agency school safety standards (19 TAC §61.1031) require that exterior doors with glass, and ground-level windows adjacent to doors, be constructed or modified so the glass cannot be easily broken to gain entry. Attached security window film is an accepted retrofit — the one most districts choose because it keeps the doors and glass they already have. Read our plain-language summary and funding guide.
Can we buy without going out to bid?
Yes. Epic is an approved vendor on BuyBoard and TIPS cooperative purchasing contracts. Districts purchase through the contract at pre-negotiated pricing, which is generally accepted as satisfying competitive-procurement requirements (confirm with your purchasing office) without a separate RFP.
Which film do schools use?
The film Epic most often specifies for entries and vestibules is 3M S2400 — the highest forced-entry rating in the 3M line — attached with the Epic Method. Ultra S800 or Ultra Prestige are used where blast or sun control is also required. We’ll recommend by opening, not by catalog.
Is it bulletproof? What about “active-shooter film”?
No. Security film is not bulletproof, bullet-resistant or ballistic — “active-shooter window film” is security film anchored to the frame so shot or struck glass stays in the opening. We will tell your board that plainly. It is designed to keep broken glass in the frame so an opening is not created on the first strikes — the delay that lockdown and response depend on.
What funding pays for school security window film outside Texas?
Most states run a school-safety or capital grant that lists entry hardening — Colorado’s BEST program and School Security Disbursement, for example — and the federal COPS School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP) funds up to 75% of eligible physical-security measures including glass hardening. Epic assembles the product data, test summaries and co-op contract documentation the applications ask for.
How long does installation take per door or window?
A typical vestibule — doors and sidelites, with the Epic Method attachment — is finished in a single after-hours shift. A campus is scheduled by wing and by entry so the building is never left with an opening overnight; your Field Project Manager publishes the schedule before the first crew arrives.
How disruptive is installation?
Most campuses are completed in days. Crews work after hours or during breaks; there is no glass replacement, no construction debris, and classrooms are usable the next morning.
Why was Epic chosen for the largest school security film project in the nation?
A Colorado district serving more than 53,000 students ran a rigorous field evaluation of competing films and installation methods. Epic’s 3M S2400 with the Epic Method attachment outperformed the alternatives, and the district awarded Epic the full project — the largest of its kind in the United States.
